The cityscape of Izushi seen from the hill above the ruins of Izushi Castle is beautiful. The Yamana clan had built Arikoyama Castle on the summit of Mt. Arikoyama in the background, but it fell during Hideyoshi Hashiba's subjugation of the Mori, and later the Koide clan moved in and abolished Arikoyama Castle in the Edo period, residing at the foot of the mountain as Izushi Castle. Originally, Izushi Castle at the foot of the mountain did not have a castle tower, but in any case, the stone walls that lined the streets of Izushi remind us of the atmosphere of the time.
